So before the SOL scores are made public in a few weeks, I want to encourage people to ask a different question before the politicians – both those in office and those running for office in our region – and school board members in Spotsylvania and other counties – whose priority is the destruction of public education – begin their diatribes.
What does educational success look like? And how can test data get us there?

Matt Hurt appears to be an analytical thinker. That is what we want and need. The test results spinners are critical for their own selfish purposes. That is what we don’t want and need. Why believe critics who don’t understand what they are criticizing and refuse to debate the accuracy of their criticism with those who understand?
Well, I failed the the ”test” on how long it should have taken me to read this piece. The time mentioned was 10 minutes. I could possibly have gotten through it in 10 minutes but I really felt like I needed to spend a lot more time on it than that. Now I need to figure out if that says something about the time test or something about me.
We need to be careful about how we use tests and give this matter long and studied consideration.
