And Christian Youth Theater will set the stage for him with a heart-warming performance this weekend.

A charming performance that the stars put together in only four days is coming to our backyard. Best of all, it’s free to see.
Spongebob the Musical by Aspire Christian Theater, which is located at Choice Baptist Church, will run through Sunday, with performances at 7p.m. today, and two shows — one at 2 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. — on Saturday and Sunday.
The show is a product of a five-day summer camp project for children ages 7-18. That they pull it off in less than a week is an impressive feat for a play that runs over an hour-and-a-half and includes 17 songs and dance numbers to boot.
Aspire Christian Theater is a nonprofit youth theater organization that has a mission of bringing the joy of performing arts to all. Operating on donations and the labor of its members, CYT never charges for tickets to their productions.
Speaking with the artistic team in June who did the production SIX, they reported that “The kids are amazing, they are unbelievable. It blows me away that they could put this on in less than five days.” SIX had a cast of 12, the main six roles being double casted between two groups of girls (giving themselves respective group names of “Sleeping Cuties” and “Crown Jewels”) that perform separate shows.
Anna Goss-Smith, the musical director, told the Advance, “We double cast all of our summer camps so everyone can have opportunities for roles…. We don’t want them to feel pitted against each other, so we do lots of team-building exercises so they all feel comfortable and seen with each other. … It’s important for an energetic show like this.”
Samantha White, the choreographer, remarked how collaborative the week was. “A lot of the moves [seen during the performance of SIX], the girls came up with.”
Aspire, works to make their productions accessible to everyone in the community and be a beacon of support to artistic youth.
AYC’s next shows will be Les Miserables and Junie B. Jones the Musical, coming this fall.
