With the cold weather coming in and our beautiful fall leaves disappearing, it’s only appropriate to start stocking up on candles. POUR by Fifth Scents Candle Co. is a small business located right on Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg.
The shop’s windows offer a view of bustling Caroline Street, but inside, the world seems to slow down, inviting visitors to linger and indulge in the sensory delight of candles. On a display table, you are able to smell each individual candle freely. The shelves and cabinets are artfully arranged, showcasing a diverse range of candles from classics to the seasonal Santa’s Cookies, each with its unique, beautifully designed label.
There is currently a wide selection of seasonal candles in preparation for the upcoming holidays. My personal favorite in the collection is Yule Mule, with its warm scent and vibrant burst of oranges, cranberry and fresh rosemary.
Three Questions for the Owner
FXBG Advance: Tell us about your candles.
Cecily Rodriguez, owner: We have a seasonal business model where we rotate four to six scents every three months. This has allowed us to keep customers excited and wanting to continually shop with us. We also offer our four everyday scents which we keep year-round.
(Current seasonal candle flavors include Yule Mule, Santa’s Cookies, Oh Christmas Tree and Frosted Holly. Year-round favorites include Mandle “the man candle,” Lush Linen, Spa Day and Sea Salt + Orchid.)
FXBG Advance: How long have you been in business?
Cecily Rodriguez: We have been in Fredericksburg, Virginia for four years. When we moved here, we started selling at farmers markets and since then have opened our first brick and mortar in historic downtown.
FXBG Advance: What makes your business unique?
Cecily Rodriguez: Along with candles, we also offer wax melts, room sprays and holders. And we offer candle-making classes where you are able to pour your own candle.
