We are looking to add 80 paid subscribers this month. Will you become one?
Dear Reader:
It’s been quite a year for the Fredericksburg Advance, and we thank you for being a subscriber to this area’s only nonprofit, online newsroom. We’ve broken stories, published exclusives, and helped our community in ways we could not have imagined when we began.
We’re just getting started, but we need your help to continue.
Before December 31, we’re looking to add 80 more paid subscribers to our rolls. Your contribution of $8 a month goes directly to supporting the journalists daily bringing you breaking news, coverage of government meetings, and the best analysis and opinion writing in Central Virginia.
Here’s the kind of journalism our paid subscribers have made possible this year.
We recently broke the story on the childcare crisis in our area—a problem that affects both parents and their employers.
In Spotsylvania we broke stories on former School Board Chairman Kirk Twigg’s felony plea deal, altered school board minutes, misleading sample ballots and the court injunction that followed.
We broke the story of illegal candidacy petition signatures that may result in General Assembly rewriting the state code.
And of course, we followed the unending controversy over book banning.
We were first with a local election guide to this region’s November elections so you could learn about the candidates before your early or Election Day vote. Then we analyzed the results of the city council, county board of supervisors, state senate and delegate races, and what they mean to you in our signature multi-partisan style.
We’re not only an online news organization, but part of our community trying to reunite us by rising above the fractured mediascape and angry voices that divide communities with untruths.
We know this because last week when we asked you to sponsor 64 children who would not have a Christmas without your help, you responded immediately. Within 48 hours, every single one of those children had a holiday sponsor. You did that. Our community of readers did that. That’s what we are all about.
Help us do more.
We are dedicated to keeping you informed, broadening and strengthening the discussions in our public square, and planting seeds of democracy, decency and civility in our communities. News, we’ve learned, is not dead. It’s simply being reborn. We are proud to lead that transformation.
Please help us. Just click on the button below to make your year-end, tax-deductible donation or paid subscription today, and help us reveal more of the social conscience and understanding of our community.
Thanks for your support.

Right on Marty!
I waited awhile to see your style before I signed up as paid. You’re doing a great job as far as I’m concerned. Keeping the Bias out of the news is what I like.
PS – Adele is a great addition to the staff. Met her at Gari Melchers a couple of months ago with our Italian sister city guest.
