The Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO) invites the public to weigh in on possible locations for a new bridge crossing the Rappahannock River.
The new river crossing will link Stafford County and the City of Fredericksburg west of Interstate 95 and seeks to alleviate traffic congestion on the existing river crossings.
FAMPO is using a consultant, Michael Baker International, to conduct a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study of various crossing alternatives. The PEL approach considers the benefits and impacts of proposed transportation projects to the environment, the community, and the economy, and looks to bring public input into potential projects at the very early stages.
Information about the study is available at a dedicated website, which also links to a survey at which the public can rate four different options for a new river crossing and identify the challenges and opportunities presented by a new river crossing.
The survey will be open through April 19 and any questions can be sent to John Ridout, the FAMPO transportation planner facilitating the project, at [email protected].
