Lorita Daniels is the Chair and Nicole Cole is the Vice Chair.

MANAGING EDITOR AND CORRESPONDENT
The Spotsylvania School Board has elected Salem District representative Lorita Daniels to be the new Chair and Battlefield District representative Nicole Cole to be the new Vice Chair for 2024.
This is the first meeting of new School Board members Carol Medawar (Courtland District), Megan Jackson (Livingston District) and Belen Rodas (Chancellor District), who were elected in November.
Daniels addressed the board and audience following the vote, emphasizing that it is the job of the board to govern and set policy, not “micromanage the school division.” She also read a list of the Chair’s duties, which include setting the meeting agendas with the division superintendent, taking the lead in contract negotiations, approving expense reimbursements for other board members and many more.
At the beginning of the meeting, Cole, the new Vice Chair, made a motion, which was approved, to add several new action items to the agenda. These include approving a new school division attorney, terminating the contract with the private firm providing security at meetings and in the School Board office, and revisiting the policy and regulations governing the selection and review of instructional materials.
The meeting is on-going.
